The newest script!

Hi Guys!

So obviously quite a few blog posts ago we mentioned that myself and Natalie had re-done our script since Emma left us and that we'll post our finalised one once it's complete as there were still lots of things to be done and atlered to it!

So here it is... Our real and final script... :D

VISIUALS

TIMING

SCRIPT

Location: School field – Has the park like look.
Piece to camera.
7.5 seconds
In the media over the past year there have been over 6,000 reports on dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers attacking young children and members of the public.
Filler Footage and News Story sequence.
Dogs barking and jumping up at kennel bars – Black and White effect used to feel sympathetic.
Filler footage location: RSPCA.
13 seconds
The media portrays these dogs in the way that there is no nice side to them and that they’re purely vicious and due to this this has led to a drastic increase in dogs like these going into animal shelters and has equally left them with a negative name.
Kenneth Vessey (news reporter), piece to camera again. Leading onto an interview of ‘vet’.
Location: School field.

It is our aim to educate you further on this topic that dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers are in-fact beautiful four legged friends and that the true image of a dog is seen through the way they’re brought up and treated. Although, it is thoroughly understood some breeds have breed characteristics like the Jack Russell’s being known as ankle biters.
We spoke to RSCPA Vet Dr Gilet about his personal opinion as to why there has been such a drastic increase in dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers going into animal shelters… and this is what he said…
Dr Gilet (veterinarian). Interview based on his personal opinion.
Location: Office.

Footage has been ‘captured’ and then ‘blurred’. Layers of bars showing confinement.
Black and White effect used.
Voice Over.

Here are some statistics on Staffordshire Bull Terriers…
The number of Staffordshire Bull Terriers has increased by 85% since 1996.
Out of 8,000 dogs based in a shelter in London 3,600 were Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Last year 315 healthy Staffordshire Bull Terriers are put down.
Klaire Kennett from the RSCPA shelter in Potters Bar said one third of dogs they’re housing are Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
Secondary Footage.
Voice Over, Kenneth Vessey explaining about charity and welfare organisations available for these types of dogs.
Screen Recording – Cut Away Shots.

There are several shelters and charity organisations such as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Welfare Charity and the RSPCA which are set up to help dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers, many of which are very successful. They ask members of the public to donate several things such as blankets and food in aid to help these dogs have a fresh start and have a healthy upbringing where they’ll be loved and cared for instead of being looked at like a fashion accessory.

Re-filimg one of our Vox Pop people...

Hi Guys,

So one of the people we filmed in our vox pop unfortunately wasn't placed correctly, for our liking, so we decided to re-film one more person.

We went outside the school and managed to catch some willing to be filmed and it was done within 5 minutes, loaded, edited and complete.

Hip hip horray for RAFA!

Thanks!

Little touches... :D

Hi all,

So basically we've just got little bits and bobs to complete now like 'Press Red' and 'Name Banners' and then we're basically finished :)

Here is what we have produced -

PRESS RED
We used the media departments computers and went on Photoshop of where we managed to make our Press Red button. We used 'shapes' and found a circle of which we altered to the size we wanted and then filled in red. We also made a white box to go behind so when on the screen it wasn't transparent and used a bold eye catching font which said 'PRESS RED' in black. We then placed it in the right hand top corner where a normal news channel would making it look effective and professional!

NAME BANNERS
We once again used Photoshop and used shapes. We got a rectangle and enlarged it and filled it in white and to the left hand side put our logo, we then used another rectangle but smaller this time and put it in the right hand bottom corner and filled it in blue which would state the persons roll within our news package i.e. news reporter or veterinarian etc. On top of this we stated the person name using the same colour blue however it would be on a white background so it could obviously be seen.

Everything is nearly complete and we look forward to showing you it :)

Thanks!

Re-editing!

Hi guys!

So myself and Natalie have now re-filmed everything necessary meaning we just need to edit now, happy days!

Rather than doing our usual and just typing what we have done with not many visuals we thought this time we would show you step by step so you're more understanding of what we have altered and for what purpose etc.

Here it goes!...

Firstly myself and Natalie re-filmed our piece to camera as we knew I was placed to much to the side unfortunately. However this time I was placed perfectly which was good. Alongside this we also added a little banner in the left hand corner of which says who I am... the News Reporter.

We then like before added some filler footage and news stories into my piece to camera for variation as we don't want to bore our target audience by nothing 'special' happening. Whilst doing this we remembered we must link the audio with visuals meaning what was playing linked together!

After the news stories and filler footage it goes back onto my piece to camera of which leads onto Sir's interview where he is acting as our professional vet... From now on in the left hand top corner is our logo representing our news channel. This gives our new package a professional and attractive look :)

Here is Sir in action! Once again a name banner comes up in the left hand corner showing who he is... Dr Gilet!

Afterwards we move onto official statistics where we have interesting facts come up onto the screen alongside a voice over underneath, this is placed over a very good shot we took when we visited the RSCPA of a Rottweiler behind several layers of bars showing the confinement making you feel sympathetic towards him/her. Another thing we did with the official statistics was made them short so that our target audience could easily read them alongside linking it with the voice over. We used blue bold font which matches our colour scheme, we also used the transition 'Zoom' of which makes them come onto the screen in a professional manner which is eye catching.

We then move onto another voice over and this time it talks about welfare and charity organizations of which are set up in aid to help dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers find new loving homes. We used secondary footage off of Youtube and also used the Media department Mac Books to film ourselves go onto the RSCPA website to 'donate' money. Once again the visuals and audio match!

Last but not least it moved onto our Vox Pops of which shows the members of the public's personal opinions towards the way dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers are portrayed within society and equally them being given negative names i.e. being dangerous and vicious.

After all of the above it comes back to me as a piece to camera where I finish the show in a professional manner :)

Throughout the whole of the above we used several effects and transitions like ... in aid for our news channel programme to look professional and real. Alongside this we also used a variety of different shots, fonts, sizes etc in aid to make it bold, eye catching and suit our target audience of kids.

Here are some prime examples of effects, transitions, fonts/sizes etc we used:

Additive Dissolve

Cross Dissolve

Stretch

Zoom

Black & White Effect

Fade In and Out - Audio/Video

Font/Size/Colour

Filming Sir, our Vet :)

Hi Guys,

So obviously previously myself and Natalie prepared everything for this interview so we were ready to go and just needed to film him.

One day after school me and Natalie stayed after school and caught Mr Gilet when he was free, he gave good answers and looked very much so like a vet with his clothing and so on so we're basically done.

All footage just needs to be put onto our file and then be edited and then we're complete!!!! :D

Our office! :)

Preparation is the key to success.

Hi guys,

So myself and Natalie have been speaking about the interview we'll be including within our news channel package and thought because we're either using the media office or the nurses office it'd be best if we put photos up of animals to make it more like a veterinary surgeon/vets office like. We got photos off of the internet of which you see in a normal vets surgeon such as animals organs, front line/spot on, variety of different breeds of specific animals like dogs and so on.

Natalie enlarged a large amount of pictures using Microsoft Word and printed them all off horizontally so they were bigger and better and more eye catching and attractive! We're now ready to film sir and just need to find a convenient time for all of us! Keep tuned.

Here's a picture of all the 'posters' for our vet surgery!

Time shant be wasted...

Hi guys,

So obviously we've now received all feedback required and we have a second fast approaching deadline so we can't waste time! Myself and Natalie ran to the library during our Media lesson and grabbed a camera and tripod and off to the field we went!

Fortunately I still remembered the script fluently so we quickly filmed myself, piece to camera, and we were ready to load all the footage. We did a few "takes" just in-case there was one we preferred more than the other and once complete we went back to Media.

Loaded all footage onto the computer and let the editing begin! We removed all unnecessary footage and worked alongside the footage needed cutting all where necessary so we could move them all about into the places needed. Everything's coming together guysss! :)

Next step, we need to get some interesting facts and get more visuals to go alongside the 'vocals' so everything matches together and so there's more of a variety for our target audience of children too. We've also decided to get rid of some of our barking dogs and add a really cool clip (OF WHICH WE TOOK), you'll see it soon ;) Oh and not to forget, names and press red and sirs interview is required too!

Keep tuned for further blogs on our progression and how editing is going. We'll add loads of screen grabs for you guys too.

Tripod and Camera at the ready!

Mine and Natalie's favorite spot :P By the trees!

FEED BACK DAY.

Hi guys,

So we've just received feed back from the media teachers regarding our new channel package and it's very good, we agree with everything said and personally ourselves knew what needed improving etc so now it's time to adapt!

We need to re-film myself because I was to much to the side when doing piece to camera and we need to add little bits and bobs like 'News Reporter, Kenneth Vessey', Press Red, more interesting and relevant statistics alongside changing the colour of the writing over the beautiful photo we took and so on. We obviously now have another fast approaching dead line coming up so we're going to put our heart into it and give in an even better and more professional complete news channel package!

Here's to TEAM RAFA :D

IDEAS SPRINGING TO OUR MINDS!

Hi Guys,

So obviously we're now on half term and the teachers are sorting out our first drafts of our news channel packages so me and Natalie have been contacting one another over the phone and we've come up with some good professional ideas.

One thing is we need to sort out the 'Press Red Button' and also we need little Subtitles of my name 'Kenneth Vessey, News Reporter' and 'Dr Gilet, Veternarian at RSPCA Shetler'.

Keep tuned and once we've received feed back we'll include these in too to make it look more professional like an actual news story you see on the t.v. every night!

Thanks!

Little tweeks here and there...

Hi guys,

Myself, Kenneth and Natalie decided that our news channel package could do with some tweaks here and there including more effects and transitions to make it look more professional, bold and eye catching towards our target audience of the younger generation.

Apart from the normal 'fade in' and 'fade out' we decided to use --- as well with our statistics so make the structure more flowing and equally different so that it wasn't just blunt and in your face the whole time.

We now just have to wait for feed back from the Media Department teachers and then the editing begins second time round for our final draft of which we're looking forward to presenting to all our blog viewers and fans :)

Keep tuned!

Thanks!

Editing and putting the new footage together...

Hi Guys,

So obviously we've taken all footage and edited everything briefly but not linked it all together so here is how it goes...

Here's the first ever image seen on our news channel package, myself the news report walking and speaking (piece to camera) towards the camera briefly explaining the story line/what the topic is based upon. Just before this we added in a 'fade in' so that there was a nice flow rather than 'in your face' unprofessional look.

We then added some fillet shots where I was speaking, rather than prolonging the process and having me no the screen for a long period of time boring our audience we wanted to add various news stories from the internet of which linked alongside what I was saying ie. dogs attacking/killing people etc. Because we had quite a few after one another we initially tried using different transitions however it didn't look good so stuck to the basics 'fade in' and 'fade out'.

After using filler shots for a little whilst it came back to my again, a piece to camera, of which then led into our interview with our 'vet', Mr Gilet. Once again so nothing was boringly put together or unfollowingly done we used 'fade in' and 'fade out' so everything had a nice flow :)

As seen on the screen it says 'SIR SPEAKS', unfortunately for our first draft we didn't get to film Sir who is playing the role of our expect vet from the RSCPA so we put this here for the time being. However, keep tuned as next time he will definently be used!

After the interview we go onto facts and statistics, we took an amazing photo at the RSCPA of a Rottweiler behind several layers of bars looking at the outside world, where he wishes he was. We thought if we still imaged this is could be used very well and so we did. The colour of the font it yet to be changed as we're yet to come to an aggreement on a good colour!

We then put in a voice over talking about many charity organisations and welfares which are set up to help dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers and equally what people do to help these dogs gave a second chance ie. donating food, blankets and so on. We had several mini clips one after another and used the 'black and white' effect of which made people feel sad and sympathetic towards them hopefully encouraging people realise dogs are just like humans and have feelings too!

Last but not least within our news channel package we added in Vox Pops of which we asked members of the public there personal opinions about dogs like staffordshire bull terriers of which are potrayed as being vicious and dangerous. We got a good amount of answers all of which were fully detailes, many of which agree a dogs character is the way it is due to the way they're brought up!

"Many thanks for listening, this is Kenneth Vessey reporting back to RAFA News" < sums it up basically!

This is a screen grab of how we use the 'fade in' and 'fade out' effect, we can equally 'fade in' and 'fade out' the audio too, however we do not use this due it not being neccessary.

Last but not least here is the last screen grab we took of which shows you have to 'still image' footage, cut footage and add title/writing into/onto your footage!

Myself and Natalie hope this blog has helped you understand the flow of our news channel package and we look forward to uploading the final piece once it is complete. If you're lucky we might upload the first draft too just to give you a little taster ;)

Thanks!

Re-filming and ideas for editing! - CHANGE :)

Hi guys,

Well, myself and Natalie decided it would be a better idea if I was the news reporter because I knew the s

Well, myself and Natalie decided it would be a better idea if I was the news reporter because I know the script off by heart meaning if anything needed to be recorded etc there would be no difficulties in remembering the lines of which need to be said! Equally, having looked through what we had taken and forgetting to take footage of little vital things we thought it would be best to start from scratch so we get better grades and complete our coursework to the best of our abilities!

Originally we were staying after school regarding to film so decided 'Hey, why not film you now...' and so we did, run the the Library, grab a camera and tripod and we were ready to rumbo! We decided obviously due to the natural day light disapearing so quickly and it being a trek back and forth the Mill Hill Park, especially in the snow(!) we would film on the school cricket field, and so we did.

The filming went exceptionally well, as per expected and we even had to load all footage onto a new Adobe Premier file and begun editing too! Now this was the 'biz', it looked sheak and professional and we were far more pleased with this footage. Obviously this meant that we would have to record all voice overs again, however as mentioned because I knew the whole script this wouldn't be difficult either! Now everything was really coming together and there were literally only little bits and bobs to be done, i.e. voice over, filming Mr Gilet (our vet) again and adding effects and transitions here and there ie. fade in/fade out, black and white effect, doors etc.

Another very clever that also came to mind when decided to change the new reporter to myself was to add some interested 'Facts and Statistics' regarding our topic, Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Natalie kindly surfed the internet and came across some really good stats of which we decided to include, we also had an absoloutely amazing image I had taken to put the statistics on top off! It is a Rottweiler behind several layers of bars showing the confinement and sadness and also sad life he/she is/was living :)

We're now really happy with everything and we just need to link everything together properly and then we're done and ready to submit our first draft to our teachers! Please keep looking back to this blog and we'll show you our progression and how we actually put everything together in a professional, bold and eye catching way.

Here are some screen grabs and images from our editing of our news channel package...

Here's a picture of myself, Kenneth and Natalie on the school fields ready to film! Obviously the school day had finished so we were very lucky to be disrupted by people or noise!

Here's a picture of using positioning the camera as to where want it. This is a very important and key thing whilst filming as we want everything to be immaculate!

And then here's a picture positioning myself! This was a very important, key and vital bit because if I wasn't in the right place then this could effect everything! Fortunately we got it right so we were happy and pleased with what we had accomplished in literally 20 minutes!

Thanks!

Let the editing... begin!

Hi guys,

So now we've obviously filmed all the footage required for our news channel package and all that was needed for it all to be on our Adobe Premier file and to be edited.

Once all the footage was loaded onto the Media computers the editing and deleting begun, obviously we had taken loads of footage so this was quite a long process however eventually we got it down the what we needed. We begun putting two and two together and adding in all effects needed ie. fade in/out, flashes, cut to black, filler footage etc etc etc. Everything was coming together :D BUT we completely forgot to film the "experts" :( Due to this resorted in having to use Mr Gilet, a man of many talents and looks! Be is a doctor, veterinarian or scientist!

Once everything was complete we just had to 'Quick Time' our vox pops and send over all of our voice overs of which we had recorded on the Media Departments Mac book laptops. Everything was coming together, and there were smiles all around.

Here are some screen grabs from our editing progression...

Here is one screen grab of Natalie doing piece to camera. She is centered slightly to the left, equally you can tell by whats around we're in an open space where dogs are regularily walked.

After Natalie's piece to camera and us needing to film a professional of which we completely forgot about it goes onto official statistics. We've used a nice bold font of which is eye catching and white so stands out on the 'photo' of which once was actually footage of which we managed to freeze! Hip hip horray to technology.

After our official statistics it moves onto a voice over which talks about charity and welfare organisations of which are set up to help dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers. When we went to the RSPCA shelter we took filler shots of dogs jumping, barking and growling at us and then used the 'black and white' effect making you feel sad and sympathetic towards them.

Here are a few more filler shots we added into our news channel package :)

After the voice over it goes onto our Vox Pops where we find out members of the public's personal opinions on the negative names dogs like Staffordshire Bull Terriers are given such as being dangerous and vicious etc.

Last but not least it goes onto Natalie saying she is reporting back to 'RAFA News' in a professional manner giving the ending of our news channel package the real news type image.

Don't forget keep tuned and once complete we will be posting the whole new package sequence onto our blog :)

Thanks!
Team; Kenneth - Natalie.

Filming Timing!

Hi guys!

So obviously you've all heard about Emma leaving us and now Natalie is going to be the news report for ours news package... the day arrived and myself and Natalie were ready to give this our best, everything was prepared; make up, costume, camera/tripod, script etc - you name it, we had it ready!

We set off to Mill Hill Park nice and early in the morning in the hope of catching some dog walkers in the act, and so we did although the dogs decided playing around with us was a lot more fun than being calm SOOO there were a few awkward "takes" whilst trying to film, however we finally managed to get everything needed and set back to school to load all the footage we had just taken onto the Media Department computers where Adobe Premier editing software was ready and waiting for us!

Once all footage was loaded and we managed to edit the majority the end of period 4 had come meaning we had to set off AGAIN to go to the RSPCA based in Potters Bar/South Mymms. It was a very interesting and funny evening trying to find the center seeming as it was approximately 30 minutes walk away which ended up being 2! However, we finally got there in one piece (surprisingly) and the filming begun. We got some excellent footage of all the poor dogs looking to be rehomed, many of which were the breed our news package was based up; Staffordshire Bull Terriers!! :D We were very lucky to have gained permission from the manager running the RSCPA shelter of which aided us to do our news package to the best of our ability using real life situations/dogs of which are looking for new homes and finding out the reasons they're actually behind bars etc.

Anyhoo, so all filming was done and we finally new where we were going, or so we though... Myself and Natalie sat on the wrong side of the road and watched our LAST bus go past and so the stress begun. We in the end had to take 5 merry buses, YES 5 and finally managed to get home after approximately 3hours or so of trying. It was hectic but well worth it so now all that is needed is the footage to be edited :)

Keep tuned and we'll take you through the processes of editing :)

Here's a picture we took of the camera and tripod merely waiting to be used. Prepared and fully charged!

Myself and Natalie waiting in Mill Hill Broadway making our way back to MHCHS to load the footage we had just taken onto Adobe Premier editing software!

A picture me and Natalie took on our supposed walk to the Potters Bar RSPCA shelter! As you can see there is no ending and so it felt the same way too. A walk which should've been 30 minutes ended up being around 2 hours!

Getting lost, calling the shelter for directions and walking in the wrong direction towards the wrong road because we're extremely clever like that!

BAAAAA! We were greeted by sheep who seemed loose (no fence) down an extremely quite country lane not knowing where we're going. They gave us the 'glare' and we got slightly freaked out however hoped it was a sign of the shelter being near, haha!

Last but not least myself and Natalie TRYING to make our way home, we sat at the bus stop for got knows how long in the freezing cold. It snowed, sleeted, hailed and rained and we were the lucky ones to stand in it! This was approximately 2 hours before getting confused and stressed as to where our bus was!!

Thanks!
